Come on Mike, what would Jesus do? Jesus would play if I asked Him! Mike:
So…go play with Jesus then. Ps Bill Eng will resign

OCTOBER 2001 MISSION TRIP REPORT
by Pr Bill Eng Lili, Alyssa, Choon Ann and myself went on
a mission trip to Medan from Sept 12-17. We had a very fruitful trip! Every
meeting seemed to be ordered of the Lord. The first night, at a town 2 hours
from Medan, some 30-40 people were filled with the HS and many received
healings. We spent some time fellowshipping & discussing church matters with
several pastors the next morning. They want us to minister in their villages the
next time we visit. During this visit, we exposed a "pastor" who is a
con-artist. He had told the pastors he has a Hokkien congregation in Johor Baru,
and knows some well-known M’sian & S'porean ministers. He was a bit
surprised when he met us. We found out that he couldn't speak fluent Hokkien,
& had given a false M'sian address & phone numbers to the pastors. A
pastor's sister was almost raped by him that night. He had been going around
preaching in churches, receiving offerings, and has raped several women. God had
a purpose for us being there right at that moment. At a village near beautiful Lake Toba,
we had an open-air meeting. The pastors had decided to trust God by renting a
tent for the meeting. We were told it had been raining non-stop for 2 weeks.
Though there were rainclouds, we didn't see a single drop of rain when we
arrived, until the very second we got into our departing vehicle! During that
afternoon, Lili felt impressed by the HS to intercede for the meeting &
against the spiritual powers over the village. The devil tried to cut off the
electricity twice during the meeting, but immediately after each time the
Christians prayed, the power came back! Many repented of their sins, were filled
with the HS, & instantly healed. A pastor told us the crusade was "dahsyat"
(awesome). We were later told that they have had many crusades with different
people & teams in the past, but nothing like what has happened. It was a
first time they witnessed such a powerful demonstration of the power of the Holy
' Spirit!! We thank God for giving us the privilege to be His chosen vessels. During the final night, we ministered at a
church that is situated in the middle of a hostile religious community. By this
time, I was very tired and had a fever. At the beginning of the meeting, we
heard rocks being thrown onto the church. God moved powerfully in the small
church - after we prayed for the baptism of the HS, 2 ladies fell and manifested
demons. We cast them out, & prayed for the sick & the villagers crowded
around the windows and the entrance of the house-church to see what was going
on. We doubt if they'd throw any more rocks at the church. There were probably about 100 people
filled with the HS during the week. Alyssa helped to pray for the people. We saw
her trying to read the song lyrics & lifting her hands in worship to God.
Choon Ann gave his testimony on how God had healed him of hepatitis B, and the
song he sang "UrapanMu" became a hit with the churches! Our friend & interpreter, John,
travelled with us throughout the week. Only married for just 2 months, we prayed
that he & his wife will have a baby next year as his wife has difficulty
conceiving. ALL GLORY BE TO GOD! OCTOBER

Negative Reactions Have you noticed how easy
it is to react in a negative manner when something negative happens in your
life? Doubt may creep into your thoughts and cause you to question God and His
Word. Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) says
"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the
bones." Thomas Hearne was an
adventurer who took an expedition to the mouth of the Coppermine River. He
recorded that a few days after the journey was started, Indians stole most of
the expedition's supplies. What was the explorer's
comment on the theft? Surely he must have been upset and distressed about so
great a loss. Not so! The optimistic Hearne
wrote: "The weight of our baggage being so much lightened, our next day's
journey was more swift and pleasant." Remember, negative
reactions only make a bad situation worse. Choose to look for the bright side of
problems this week.

AUGUST 2001 I Must Help
My Neighbors (Author Unknown) James Bender, in his book "How to Talk Well" (New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc., 1994) relates the story of a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year the farmer entered his corn in the
state fair where it won a blue ribbon. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed
him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The
reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. "How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?" the reporter asked. "Why sir," said the farmer,
"didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn." He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor's corn also improves. So it is in other dimensions: Those who choose to be at peace must help
their neighbors to be at peace. Those who choose to live well must help
others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it
touches. And those who choose to be happy The lesson for each of us is this: If we
are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbors grow good corn.

JUNE 2001 Don't Give Them Vinegar! The preacher placed two identical jars on the table next to the pulpit. He quoted 1 Samuel 16:7 'The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." "These jars came from the same factory, were made of the same materials, and can hold the same amount. But they are different," he explained. Then he upset one and it oozed out honey. He turned over the other, and vinegar spilled out.
"When a jar is upset, whatever is in it comes out. Until the jars were upset, they looked alike. The difference was within, and could not be seen. When they were upset, their contents were revealed. Until we are upset we put on a good front. But when we are upset, we reveal our innermost thoughts and attitudes, for 'out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.'" (Luke 6:45) What if someone tipped you over today?? What would flow out?? Would you reveal the "honey" of grace and patience, or the "vinegar" of anger and sarcasm? "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." (1Peter 4:8) Have a terrific day knowing that the one who upsets you may be just looking for some honey - Don't give them vinegar!

MISSION STATEMENT
March
2001 Bulletin Who Packs Your
Parachute? Sometimes in the daily challenges of life, we
miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you,
or something else nice. Congratulate someone on something that has happened,
give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason at all. Lt. Charles Plumb, a US Naval Academy
graduate, was a jet fighter pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his
plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted
into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese
prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that
experience. One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting
in a restaurant, a man at another table came up and said, "You're Lt.
Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk.
You were shot down!" "How in the world did you know
that?" asked Plumb. "I packed your parachute," the man replied.
Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, "I
guess the chute worked!" Plumb assured him, "It sure did. If your
chute hadn't worked, I wouldn't be here today." Plumb couldn't sleep that night, thinking
about that man. Plumb says, "I kept wondering what he might have looked
like in a Navy uniform - a Dixie cup hat, a bib in the back, and bell bottom
trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said good
morning, how are you or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot and he
was just a sailor." Plumb thought of the many hours the sailor
had spent on a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship, carefully weaving
the shrouds and folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time
the fate of someone he didn't know. Now, Plumb asks his audience, "Who's
packing your parachute?" Everyone has someone who provides what they need
to make it through the day. Plumb also points out that he needed many
kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory-he needed
his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his
spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety. His experience reminds us all to prepare
ourselves to weather whatever storms lie ahead. As you go through this week,
this month, this year... recognize people who pack your parachute!

OUR
MISSION STATEMENT
February
2001 Bulletin he theme for 2001 is based upon Christ’s
two foremost commandments. In Luke 10:25-37, a lawyer wanted to put Jesus to the
test. He asked the Master, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal
life?" Having already discerned the motive behind the question, Christ
answered this intellectual man by asking him a question – "What have you
read in the Law?" After the lawyer had answered the question
correctly, Jesus pointed out his weakness – he had a swollen head, but a small
heart. The lawyer was a religious person who met every stroke and whim of the
letter. Yet there was something lacking – his relationship with the one true
God was merely a robotic response. He failed to understand the motivation behind
his relationship with the Lord. Loving God wholeheartedly should result in
strong relationships with people. The fruit of the Spirit is a by-product of a
submitted relationship to the Holy Spirit, and this fruit is to be evident in
our relationship with people around us. In the parable, a Samaritan ministered
to the injured man. The former is symbolic of a Christian who may not be
religious or spiritual in the watchful eye of the church, but knows how to love
another person in a practical way. Loving God should not make us more aloof or
detached from people. Instead, we should
As we venture into another year, we are
challenged to not just know and love Him more. We also want to be similarly just
as fervent in our relationship with people around us. ~Pastor Bill

year and let us enter into the year of 2001 with faith and new challenges. For
we have God who promised to be with us to bless us (Joshua 1:9). Our former
Senior Pastor Teo Kwee Keng has been led by the Lord to take over the post as
Executive Pastor of Glad Tidings Klang, and she is now our Interim Pastor and I
have been appointed to be the Pastor-in-charge of Berean. I covert much of your
prayers. Although there are changes in our church yet let us change for the
better and for His purpose and calling (Rom 8:28). The theme for 2001 is Love
God Wholeheartedly and Love People Fervently (Mat 22:36-40). It is the
commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ. I believe by the power of the Holy Spirit
we are able to make it if we build our relationship right with God daily. Now it is harvest time. Let
us rise up to bring in the harvest and be fruitful Christians. Paul said for me
to live is Christ and to die is gain (Phil 1:21). ~Pastor Ruth
